A great Investor

Investing Hope Foundation is proud to share the inspiring story of Juan David Linares, an 11-year-old boy from a low-income family in rural Colombia who has overcome significant challenges with the help of our organization. Despite being born with a cleft lip and undergoing numerous medical treatments, Juan David is known for his hard work and leadership skills. He became the president of his entrepreneurship and savings group, and was the top saver in his class, with savings exceeding 100,000 pesos.

With the help of his mother, Juan David used his savings to make his first investment and bought a piglet for 100,000 pesos. When the pandemic hit and he could no longer sell and save in his YES Club group, he started his own business at home, making and selling chocolate candies to his mother's coworkers, family members, and neighbors. With the profits from his sales, he purchased food for his piglet, which later became two pigs after winning one in a raffle.

Juan David and his brother Diego dedicated themselves to feeding and caring for the pigs, and after fattening them up, sold them for 350,000 pesos each. With the profits, they purchased a cell phone that helped them with their classes and studies during the pandemic.

Juan David dreams of becoming a professional soccer player and a great chef, with his mother noting that he makes delicious cakes. We believe he will continue to pursue his dreams, having taken his first steps as an entrepreneur and saver with the support of Investing Hope Foundation. This is just one example of the impact our organization has on the financial education and empowerment of children and youth in Colombia. We thank our donors for their generous support, which makes stories like Juan David's possible.
